Middle Of The Night

Last night the snow was blowing and it was a real fierce blizzard outside. The temperature was 14 degrees along with a 30+ mph wind. Wind chill was -5 degrees and snow was blowing every which way.

Carol got up to use the bathroom in the middle of this blizzard and noticed Gypsy was panting heavily and so she thought she needed to go out to to relieve herself. She therefore took the dogs outside so they could go to the bathroom and when she tried to come back inside the door handle was frozen and the door wouldn't open. The thumb piece that opens the door wouldn't work and she was on the wrong side of the door. All her efforts to open the door failed to work and she started to knock on the door to wake me up but I was sleeping so soundly and I didn't hear the knocks. The bird feeder had been banging against the house and in my stupor I thought that was what it was.

So while I was sleeping inside she was outside in -5 degree weather and not dressed to to stay warm in those conditions.

Finally her frantic wild eyed banging on the door must have jarred the ice loose from the door handle and the door finally opened and she could get back inside.

She told me about the incident this morning and my response was that it was a pretty dumb thing to do. Going out in the middle of the night, half dressed, in the middle of a fierce blizzard. She could have gotten frost bite or frozen to death. Not to mention putting the dogs at risk. The doctors tell me that these casts can come off in a few weeks.

I guess next time she'll wake you up and make you take the dogs out and then she'll go back to bed....

Just before I read the last sentence, I was about to ask how it was that she let you live…

Hmmm, wonder why this doesn't surprise me! Made me laugh!

Marg, figured you didn't even need the pictures to envision that! Like my bathrobe? And check out the boots! They are Bruce's. When I came down I had no idea that I was going to be standing outside!

Scary! At my house, husband is nearly deaf, so getting him to wake up would be impossible. I would have to go to a neighbor's. Know that wouldn't work up there. Glad you are OK, Carol.

Henrietta, actually it was pretty funny...and I had no trouble going back to sleep. I think he would have heard me if I went around to the front door and knocked. Of course all 4 dogs were outside with me so none of them would have barked!

What is a neighbor??
