Where are they all going at once and together? When I was in Alaska in July, I was told the moose had started moving up into the higher elevations, but that was because the hunting season was getting near. It's great how they can sense that and try to stay safe. I have always had mixed emotions about hunting, but at least it seems to me that the local Alaskans hunt what is in season and eat what they get. Same for fishing. It keeps the population in good control and feeds people during the severe winters. Can't argue about that.

the bulls herd up a harem of females and most likely they head over the mountain because the 'grass on the other side' is green and lush. It was almost hunting season though so that could have something to do with it..
