Miracle

We found out our house AND property were spared. The tax assessor took a photo and nothing damaged. It went down the other side of our road. We are overwhelmed with this good news but grieve with those who are not so fortunate. Sitting in the notice meeting when a home was  announced destroyed I would hear an exhale or little moan. My heart was breaking.....

I am glad to hear that. But it will be very different. There must be damage to the electrical lines. What about the water supply?
I remember a burnt are we used to live near in Alberta, Canada. The smell of burnt wood and soot hung in the air for a long time after. Plants started to grow immediately after the next rainfall. Grasses first, shrubs and small trees later. It is all green now, 10 years later. We live now on the East Coast, Maritimes. Lots of trees around and it is getting hotter here too. One never knows what the future brings.
Wish you all the best.
Thank you for sharing your story.

I am happy to hear your property was spared but also sad for those whose property were not. I cannot imagine how hard it is, and will be, to recover from the destruction the fires left.

I am so relieved for you and Carol! Any your dogs!!!

At the same time I too am grieving for some others I know who lost their permanent residences. I hope everyone had insurance and will be made whole. Still though, time can't be replaced and being displaced is a terribly stressful thing to go through.

Also I am so sad about all the fora and fauna destruction.
A good friend who worked for Fish & Wildlife in Florida told me it will NOT be a total moonscape because a wildfire leaves many patches unscathed. She said the rapidity of regrowth can be astounding. I told her that may be true for Florida, but it may be quite different in the Rockies with a short growing season and a lot less rain. We will see.

I'm glad your home was spared but yes it still is heartbreaking for those less fortunate
