The Flowers Came Back

This is the same box of flowers that Mr. Pack Rat destroyed earlier.  Lots of TLC has brought them back to share with readers.  They came back just in time for the cold weather but we will get to enjoy them a few days.  It has dropped to 33 degrees for the last two nights in a row and it is only a matter of time before it gets cold enough to freeze them.  In the meantime they have been nurtured back to flowering again and we will enjoy them as long as possible.

You remember my neighbor Bill Vanlandingham? He use to make a tent of thick drop cloth opaque plastic over plants he wanted to sustain for through freezes; then he would run an outdoor extension line out to the tent and put a lamp -- just a plain table lamp with an incandescent bulb -- in it, and that bulb provided enough warmth to keep the plants from freezing during freezing snaps in Tallahassee. Dave used to do that with the poinsettia that grew up the front (west wall) of our house in Tallahassee so that they lived through the freezes.

This might keep your posies alive a little bit longer...
