Not for wimps - by bruce

Well winter finally reached us. This is what three feet of fresh snow looks like on top of the 40" we got in the past 6 days and did not get a chance to clear yet. This is looking out our side window. As you can see the snow is almost to the top of the window and still falling pretty heavily.

This photo is looking out our back window up toward the wood shed. The top rail of that fence is 6' high. We have shoveled out the back yard today twice. The board walk has also been shoveled and from when I did it last it had drifted in to over 4 feet deep again.
This last photo is looking out the front window across the deck. The snow on the railing is around 10-11" high. Beautiful isn't it. Notice that all these photo's were taken from inside looking out.
If you can believe the weather forecasters this is suppose to stop around 4:00 A.M. tomorrow. The outside temperature is presently at minus two degrees. Our total snow fall from last Tuesday until today has been around 76" so far and it is still coming down pretty heavily. We may get another foot by tomorrow morning. If so that would be a total of 88" or 7.3 feet.

We heard on the Denver News that the Red Cross has set up a shelter in Ft. Garland for those who may be stranded. I posted earlier on FB that we would have to hike 22 miles to take advantage of that shelter if we even wanted to. Actually that is not correct as I would take the shortcut. Strap on the snowshoes and hike 15 miles across two mountains, several foot hills and through town and we would save about 7 miles off the long way around. Guess we'll just hunker down here in our nice warm home, wood stove pumping out the heat, with our electricity, water, plenty of food and doggies. Maybe watch some television or catch up on reading.

Might as well rest while we can as we will be several days clearing this last snow fall accumulation. Actually it is something we have dealt with probably 12 of our 14 winters here. Just business as usual when you live where we do. It should warm up enough in the next few days to plug in the block heater on the tractor and then we can get some snow moved. In the meantime we'll spend some time with the snow shovels, watching movies as long as the electric stays on, and reading. So from the high country of Colorado we hope you have a great rest of the day.

Ron and Thelma: We have it want it or not. Be dealing with it the next few days.
Tough living for sure Barbara. Hope you are doing well.

I find it so interesting that two people who share the "moving to the mountains to live" persuasion actually found each other, fell in love and married.

Isn't life mysterious and wonderful!

Indeed it is. All part of God's plan for us. Not feeling so romantic right now though, just spent the entire morning outside shoveling. Whew.......

Actually the both of us were outside shoveling. Moved a lot of snow with those shovels.
