Back Yard Activity In The Last Week

It is okay now to post more photo's of the visitors we have in our back yard. We dumped the hay from the hay rides out back and one little bale provided a lot of food for elk and deer. It is safe now to post these photo's because there is a foot of snow on our road, an aspen tree broke off and is laying across the road and the markers that were put up by poachers are scattered and covered with snow.

So enjoy our visitors. There were a total of 205 photos and one of a bull elk bugling. As soon as I can find that one again I will post it.

Have you seen the poachers and is it your land they are on

I have seen one marking game trails by making little rock berms and sticks. I went down the road after they left and kicked them all down. Not on our land but pretty close to it. Recognized the person and it turns out they are a good friend of the person in charge of anti poaching. They come onto our land they will be turned over to law enforcement - not some local resident who will turn them loose.

Good for you! Good for GOd's creatures! Oh, well, too bad for the poachers. ;) These are way cool. You are drawing such a big -- is herd the right word? Oh, yes, by all means! An elk bugling! And you have so many other shots, too. Could you actually hear the elk bugling? Can you keep giving them abit of hay through the winter, or would that make them too dependent? I hope you can. Maybe they will stay throughout their whole cycle and you will get to see the new births in spring. How are the babies handling having so many of them this close this often? I have so many questions. This is just great. :)

Nope, don't want them dependent. They can have the alfalfa hay we used on the hay ride but to feed them and try to keep them around could be their demise. We get on average of 25' of snow a winter and they couldn't get enough hay to survive. It would be too deep for them. Our dogs will (if we let them, we don't) charge the fence but the deer just look at them like they are crazy. If I go out back with them and tell them to leave the deer alone they will and just ignore them. One came up to the fence once and she and Sarah sniffed each others noses. We get to see the new births in the Spring anyway. Have seen one so tiny that it couldn't have been hours old. They are born with survival instincts that we are born with too but we lose ours quickly. They do not and it would not be good for them to have human interference and screw up their instincts. We look but don't touch until they are older and only if they allow it like Junior did. They are truly amazing animals.

Did you you really just post a picture of baited elk? Colorado DOW will love this.............

Anonbymous: Go ahead and report the "baited elk" to the DOW. Had you read further you would have seen that they took that hay off our trailer that we had used for a hay ride. They were not and are not baited. Taking a hay ride is not illegal and if the elk will come right in to the house and pull it off the hay ride wagon they is nothing I can do. I had it covered with a tarp and they managed to get the tarp off and drag the hay all over the place.
Do you want the DOW number?
