Junior - Our Amazing Friend

Many have asked for the story about Junior our family deer.  The above photo makes it look like Junior is dead but he is just soundly sleeping from being out carousing for a few days with his girl friends.  That is how much he trusted us to sleep where we would keep an eye out for him. I could walk right by him and he would open an eye to see who it was and go right back to sleep. To read the entire story go to: http://www.motherearthnews.com/the-happy-homesteader/junior-the-buck-deer-story.aspx

Experts say that deer are dangerous when they are in the rut but one look at Junior here and you can see he doesn't have a mean bone in his body. If you have never been trusted as much as Junior trusted us as demonstrated by this picture where we were only a few feet away, you will just have to take my word that it is such a special kind of trust we are honored to be recipient of.  Junior was not tame but he adopted us as his friends and used our home as his sanctuary.

Junior will always be a special friend and not forgotten.  We were pretty limited previously as some would make having a friend like Junior a federal case when in fact Junior adopted us and not the other way around. Junior will always hold a part of my heart and I truly miss him.

By Barbara: I remember reading your story about Junior last year or so Bruce and I was so touched by it and this marvelous animal. I hope you have many offspring of his floating around your property to keep you company! Barbara
