Being Thankful - By Sakoieta
Thinking about prayer all day today. What is prayer and when do we pray and why. I was taught and rejected that when we need things we ask for them from this great divine being who is supposed to be somewhat like Santa Claus or the Miracle Man and give us a present of answered prayer. It may not be right away and may take many years for him to finally visit us and give us what we ask for. I have never liked hearing these types of prayers prayed by people. It reeks of selfishness and an asking for things we think in our limited minds we may understand what we think we want enough for our prayers to be answered. I have always favored the way we pray as Onkwehonwe people. Never asking for anything. When we pray it is giving thanks because we recognize that with our limited minds as a human being what we ask for may not be what we really need. My prayers are always thanks for what I have been given and what may come my way in the future knowing that my needs will always be met and that my limited mindset will never be able to fully understand what I will need in the days to come. So when I pray each morning and night and through out the day it is to give thanks for the things I have been given and that I am responsible for. It’s going to be interesting to see what type of responses people will put down.

Isaiah 55:8-9: "My thoughts are not your thoughts, Neither are your ways My ways," declares the Lord. "For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways And My thoughts than your thoughts."
I had not thought to comment on this blog I just stumbled upon. That said... I think your words will stay with me for a very long time.
Thanksgiving has been eluding me and I wonder now if it is not because I've had a corrupted view of prayer. Throughout the Bible I'm told that God knows my needs before I ask. At one point I'm instructed to seek the Kingdom of God and His righteousness (which I take to mean seek knowledge of Him and of the means to Him that He has already provided through Jesus), promising that in focusing my desires on Him I'll be provided all the things that people seek after instead of seeking to know Him.
That's a whole lot of words to say what you said in so gentle few. I'm going to read the way you said it again. Thank you.
