Classical Music

We have a storm that is pretty severe and the lightning and thunder is pretty close. Our girl Lucy goes into a panic when the thunder shakes the house and the hail beats on the metal roof. We saw this one coming on our radar app and so we got ahead of the game by turning on classical music with our Dish program.

The music had her nice and calm even though at times it could barely be heard over the noise on the metal roof. We have tried other types of music but classical music seems to really calm her down. We have used this with our other dogs who would go into a full panic under similar conditions.

Has anyone else tried  this method????? We have used it for years and it worked for us in the past and works on Lucy. She is laying on her bed just as calm as can be. If you have dogs that run to their hiding place when thunder storms occur it might be worthwhile to try just to see if it works for you too. We have tried the thunder shirt and it doesn't do well for dogs that go into a full blown panic. We have tried to hold them and calm them down and nothing works like classical music.

We just got an emergency alert that we were in a flash flood area due to the the wildfire three years ago. So far in the past it has only washed out our road in a few places.. Not fun at all but its is the actual storm itself that puts our Lucy in a panic but the music sure calms her down.

I've always found that classical music has a calming effect on people also. Wish we would have a thunderstorm with lots of rain here in Sacramento, but maybe I shouldn't wish for that. We in for a long, hot, and dry spell!
