Hi Bruce. Just stumbled across your blog. Interested in your remote lifestyle. We are considering the same. Oddly enough we too had a 13 year old shepherd that passed away Nov 2020. She was a member of our family for many years and loved going to our cabin in the woods. We sold our cabin this summer, my husband retired so we are contemplating selling our home in the big city and moving to an island with a population of 1,000 and 1 hour ferry ride from the mainland. Your life on an island sounds enjoyable and you won't have the 22' + snow to deal with as we do in the mountains.
