Great People:

If you are fortunate and blessed in your lifetime you may meet some great people. You instinctively know you are meeting someone special as they are humble, warm and courteous. I have met several in my lifetime. Such was the case of one gentleman I met in Tallahassee, Fla. following a severe storm that had hit our area. He had his Grand Piano insured with our company and it had been slightly damaged in the storm. I was assigned to handle his claim.

His name is Marvin Goldstein and he is a marvelous musician. He gave me a couple of cassettes of his music and I played them for the longest time in my company car as I went from one call to another. When I went back to resolve his claim  I asked him if he ever played benefits and that my mother was in a local nursing and I knew the residents would love to hear him play. He didn't even think about it and said he would be glad to.

There was a baby grand piano in the nursing home lounge and so I asked the manager of the home if it would be alright for Marvin to play for the residents. They quickly agreed and a mutual date was set. I had told my mom that there was a very special treat in store for her. On the appointed time Marvin came and played music that the older folks would relate to for over an hour. As I looked around the room every one was engaged in the music.

I could clearly see the impact it had on the residents and staff and my mom loved it. I did not see Marvin again but I have never forgotten his flawless music and generosity that night. I recently Googled him and read an article about him that stated his accomplishments. What a litany of accomplishments he has had.

Marvin was awarded a scholarship to Tel Aviv University School of Music, continued his training at Mozarteum University in Salzburg. He achieved a bachelors and masters degree in music at Florida State University. Liberace once told Marvin that he was actually overqualified to play with him and he needed his own show and not play as backup pianist.

Marvin has played in Asia, .Middle East, Central America, Europe, Baltic States, Canada, South Seas, and all over the USA including a nursing home in Tallahassee, Fla. Marvin freely donates his talent and time which in my opinion makes him one of the greats.

Marvin is one of those great musicians who is extremely talented and humble who gives of himself and I will not ever forget meeting him and his willingness to play for my mothers nursing home.
