A Different Breed:

 I have noticed that those who are moving into our area that they are of a different breed of people. When we moved to the area we prepared ourselves to be self sufficient. We took courses to repair our own tools and studied on electricity and plumbing. I already had carpenter timbering skills.  We were pretty much self sufficient and could pretty much handle anything that came up. 

I see those coming to our area now wanting the amenities of  the city and having things done for them. Just by the questions they ask it is obvious they want things done for them. As such self sufficiency is a thing of the past. We built a cabin because it was efficient and easy to maintain but what I see now are homes that are large with all the bells and whistles. 

We still heat with a wood stove and as such must still cut fire wood in preparation for our long winters. We have done that for a quarter of a century. They cut firewood not for heat but aesthetic value. We have always complied with the community covenants but I see some now ignore the covenants which maintain property value. The rules are for others but not them. Some are clearly woke culture as there is no opinion than theirs. Well established facts and rules are easily abandoned. 

It is easily a different time and type of people. I wrote for 10 years for Mother Earth News about going back to the land and some of those who now are moving into our area are using the land and not going back to it. All  things change in time and our old culture is not immune. Sad to see but nothing to do about it.
