Thievery:

I'm not sure that 2023 is going to be an improvement over 2022. When Carol went shopping recently I asked her to pick up some razor blades. They used to be hanging where you could access them but now they are in a glass case that is locked. You have to find a store clerk (not an easy task in itself) to unlock the case for you. Obviously the store went to a secure case that is locked because of shoplifting. It seems that you can't trust anyone nowadays. This puts the rest of us who are lawful at an inconvenience.  Maybe that is why so many men now sport beards.

We have been members of the farm coop for 23 years and we just received a bill for gas that we did not charge to our account. Carol called the billing dept. at the coop and it turns out someone had a coop credit card on our account. Since we never requested or received a coop credit card this person must have somehow (we have no idea how) requested a card in our name and charged over $600.00, and put it on our account. They sent us a surveillance photo of him and it is not anyone we know. They have a license number so hopefully they can locate and charge the man with theft.

It seems to me that when ethics and morals decline to this level that we are on the cutting edge of lawlessness. The police seem to be the ones handcuffed these days and the crooks get a "shame on you", warning and are quickly back out on the street commiting more crime. In the meantime us honest consumers pay extra at the cash register and have to go find a clerk to allow us access to a product. Even with surveillance cameras it seems that the crook is the one who skates free and the honest hard working people pay for the crook's crimes. We can't blame the store as they are taking heavy losses by crooks. Yup, I don't see 2023 getting much better.

I don't want to pick on the illegals that are flooding over our border but the people who were cutting trees illegally along our road off peoples lots were illegal. When I was questioning them they freely admitted they were not legal in our country. Like the USA the south American countries  have mostly legal minded citizens but I fear that our markets are being taken advantage of by the criminals from other countries and those in our country who feel entitled. It appears to me to be a very sad thing that is happening and I am not sure how it can be stopped as the police seem to be hamstrung by a very vocal minority.

Unfortunately, I believe we will have to brace ourselves for a lot more illegals doing illegal things. Thankful for the gate at the Park entrance.

We have some family in Albuquerque that went to Walmart to purchase underwear for their son and it was locked in a case. Had to get a supervisor to unlock it and then wouldn't allow our family member to take it. It had to be taken to the checkout lane and a manager had to scan their badge in order to be rung up. I'd never heard of such a thing. I did notice the Walmart in Alamosa had shaving cream locked up also.

The illegal immigrants in our area work for local businesses who pay them less and basically take advantage of them. Some even have RVs parked on their properties where people are living. But...Local residents want cheap companies to do their landscaping, lawn cutting, and cleaning, so they hire the businesses who charge less because they pay their illegal employees less. And these same residents don't want to do these jobs or have their kids do that work.

A circle...
