Falsely Accused:

Have you or someone you know been falsely accused of something?  Several years ago a resident of our community accused us of letting our dogs bark non stop. We told her that our dogs were indoor dogs and when they went out we were with them and she had accused the wrong dogs. She was adamant that it was our dogs and was unrelenting with her accusations. We live at least two miles from their home and as it turned out the dog barking was from a house just a short ways from where they lived.

The owner was deaf without his hearing aids and he would let his dog out first thing in the morning and the dog would bark to come back in but he wouldn't hear it until he put his hearing aids in. Even though the owner told her it was his dog that was making all the noise she refused to accept that and continued to accuse our dogs who actually never barked and even if they did she had so many trees and sound absorbers between us that the noise wouldn't carry that far.

Next thing we knew is that other people were telling us to stop our dogs from barking non stop. We had gone camping and the dogs were with us and still some said they were barking. I don't know how others handle false accusations but they make me extremely angry. You are falsely accused and convicted without anyone even considering evidence or your denial. Even when faced with the truth from the actual violator the accuser refused to accept it and planted their feet.

My sympathy goes out to those falsely accused especially when the facts prove otherwise. And it seems to happen often.

It does happen, all too often. I was even sued on a false accusation. Fortunately, the lawsuit was eventually dropped. Unfortunately, I still paid a hefty sum in legal fees for my defense. These things have a way of spiraling out of proportion. May that never happen to you!

We would do well to remember that the penalty for a false witness is to suffer the fate that they had intended for the accused. I do wonder how she would feel if those accusations had returned right back to her? Would she have learned something by it?

“You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor." (Exodus 20:16, ESV)

“You shall not spread a false report. You shall not join hands with a wicked man to be a malicious witness." (Exodus 23:1, ESV)

"The judges shall inquire diligently, and if the witness is a false witness and has accused his brother falsely, then you shall do to him as he had meant to do to his brother. So you shall purge the evil from your midst." (Deuteronomy 19:18-19, ESV)

I've had hundreds of both terrible and tremendous experiences with people. I will tend to believe almost anything.
