The birds are all fluffed up to keep warm as it just hit its high for the day at 12 degrees. They need food to help them stay warm so I shoveled the 1 foot of snow to get to their feeders. After 25+ years of living here You would think I would remember from year to year but I don't seem to. I went to toss a small piece of foam filler aside and my work glove went with it. I had to shovel down to the lower level and find that glove before it ended up in the snow thrower and was shredded. When I got down to the glove it had all but disappeared.
The snow is light and the wind tends to blow it right back in my face. It also drifts in the most unusual places. This time it drifted under the deck where my tractor is kept and it never drifts under there. It seems that this year the wind is coming from a totally new direction so the drifts are in area's we have not had to deal with prior to this winter.
No one saw this storm coming but we have in the past dealt with storms from 4' to 6' so we will deal with this surprise storm. Now they predict it may snow up until 11:00 p.m. so it could end up being 2' or more. Life in the Mountains. Code word: Be prepared......
