Mixed Emotions:

It is with mixed emotions that news for us. at I write this blog. We took Rex to the vet for his 6 month checkup to see how his heart worm treatment is doing. The vet had bad news for us.  I am angry and sad at the same time.

When we adopted him from the shelter we were told that he had been treated for heartworm and the records we were provided indicated such. We followed the protocols for his treatment and kept him calm for 6 weeks (not an easy task). When he was tested for heartworm yesterday he tested positive and our vet called the shelter we adopted him from to find out he had not been treated for heartworm at all.

Because of the stage he is in with heartworm he no longer can take the slow cure and only can take the three month cure which is major dangerous and very risky.

I am angry because of the deception of the shelter where he was on death row and we were told he had been treated. I am sad for him because he does not deserve this. Keeping him calm now with the other two dogs is impossible as they like to play and he even gets excited when he gets fed.

The vet put him on Iverheart Plus Max, which will kill the heartworms over time but is not as certain as the three month cure.

Rex is such a well behaved and happy boy who does not deserve this.  We thought he was treated when it was all wrong and the records were wrong. The vet was sorry for us but we are sorry for Rex as he has been through being surrendered to the shelter two times, was on the short list to be euthanized, transported across the country to be here where he is deeply loved, and previously an outdoor dog.

He is in a good place now but my heart is sad for him as up until now his life has not been good. He doesn't deserve this for sure.
