Hi Bruce and Bruce's wife,
Sorry about the brain fade, Bruce's wife. Anyway, your frosted window - I definitely see a dinosaur skeleton there in the frost!

Bruce, I hope you are healing nicely.

Thanks again for all your posts and for sharing your lives with all of us.

Hi, McElmurray's! I've read thru most of your blog, all the way back to 2012!! I'm curious. We are from out of state and just bought property on Spencer Rd. I'm sure you pass it going to 160. Does that area get as much snow as you do? I'm guessing yes since it's only 4 miles or so, but you never know when it comes to a mountain. Love your blog, just subscribed!

Hi Nadia: I hope I can answer your question. We are probably 10-12 miles from Spencer Rd. We passed it yesterday on our way back from town and saw tire tracks going down it.
Snow in the mountains is pretty tricky and it is why the weather forecasters often get it wrong. We are at a higher elevation and we have noted in the past 18 years that the front of the Park which is significantly lower in elevation gets less snow and it melts faster. We sometimes leave our house where we may have significant snowfall only to find a few inches at the lower elevations. I don't believe the county plows Spencer since there are no permanent residents on the road that I know of. In general I would say that you get much less snow than we do at our elevation. I'm glad you like our blog site and thank you for participating. I hope that answers your question...

Thank you SOOO much for replying!!! That is VERY helpful info! I was starting to get very nervous after viewing some of your snow pics, lol. Like you guys we bought ours site unseen (except for photos) with the option to change lots if we need to, but I don't think that we will need to. We plan on going out sometime this yr. We are in Illinois so it's around a 13-14 hr drive. Is 160 usually clear of snow to the east by May? I do have one more question for you though. Do you know who is reputable as far as Well Drillers go? I need to find out the average depth so I can budget accordingly, but have read stories about some unscrupulous drillers in the area over-charging.

You are welcome Nadia: Highway 160 is usually no problem as CDOT does an excellent job in keeping it open and usable. They have signs that give motorists conditions of 160 so they can drive accordingly.
As to a well driller I really don't know anymore. Our driller has passed away and he was the best in my opinion. His employee who actually drilled our well was Kenny Dalby who now services wells but no longer drills them.
I would suggest you call Kenny and see if he has anyone he recommends. I trust his opinion completely. His phone number is 719-754-3260. Perhaps he can recommend someone to you whom he is familiar with.

Thank you! I've been so stressed out worrying that maybe we were making a big mistake! Buying land without getting to physically see it first is definitely not for the faint of heart, lol. I can't wait to get out there and see it. I think we'll shoot for May. We've only been to CO in the Fall/ early winter so it will be a real treat to see another season in person. I can still close my eyes and see the mountains. They definitely left a lasting impression. I cried when we had to come home, lol.
