We have this ground squirrel - actually we have several - and he has a craving for unsalted peanuts. I'll be outside and he will run up to me and sit a couple feet away looking up at me eye to eye when he wants a peanut. I toss a few on the ground for him and he is happy. I don't feed him by hand as I don't want to put him in danger in case he encounters some other person who won't be as understanding. His side pouches get so full it looks like he has three heads sometimes. He will follow me up on the deck and to the back door where Lucy goes crazy.
As people deal with the hate going around, politics and the covid virus I have my friend the squirrel to talk to and pass the time and neither of us get very upset with world events. In fact we think everyone should have a few peanuts to share with each other and the world would be a far better place.
