A Little Known Fact About Life In The Mountains:

We are about 3000' elevation above the valley that lies between two mountain ranges. The valley tends to heat up in the daytime from the sun. At night it gets cold and the cold air sinks so when it is 0 degrees in the valley it will be much warmer at our elevation. The cold sinking air pushes the heat from the day up and so we are more warm. We have seen this happen many times over the years we have lived here.

Our main heat source comes from our wood stove. On the side of the living room where the wood stove sits it can be 80 degrees with warm radiant heat and 14' away on the other side of the room it can be 68 degrees where the ETS heater is. (electric thermal System)  When the wood stove burns down and goes out at night the ETS keeps the cabin at a comfortable 68 degrees. The two don't necessarily work together at the same time but they do work with each other to keep us consistently warm in the long winter months.
