I was able to start the new year in a different fashion. When I went to bed after watching Georgia trounce Michigan, Lucy went to bed with me. She normally sleeps with me but at the bottom of the bed. This time she decided (first time ever) to sleep with her head tucked under my chin and partly on my chest. She quickly went to sleep and was doing those deep breaths of full relaxation. She clearly felt safe and content. I did not want to move and wake her up and she slept like that with a leg over my arm and me with an arm over her shoulder.
She was lightly snoring and the legs and feet were twitching. Her warm breath on my neck was delightful. I lay there for two hours as she slept. She had never done this before and I did not want to move and disrupt the moment. She was totally relaxed and content. I was thrilled she wanted to snuggle like this.
Then suddenly at 11:03 PM, there were a series of gunshots that seemed close to the house and her head came up and she was on full alert. She jumped down and positioned herself where she could see both back doors. She was scared but in protective mode. We finally got her calmed down along with Klaus who is seldom alarmed. After they just nicely got back to normal the shots rang out again at 12:01 AM. Same procedure and then again at 1:02 AM it happened again. It started out as an ideal evening and we ended up with little sleep. Others in the community heard the shots but no one could identify who was doing it.
Klaus on full alert.....
