Food For Thought:

We were watching a show last night on TV called Expedition Unknown where an archeologist was discussing an ancient civilization that existed long before other civilizations. The Mayan and Aztec came along after the Teotihuacan civilization had disappeared in Central Mexico.

It was believed that this culture were peaceful but recent discoveries reveal that they made human sacrifices. The photo shows their pyramids that are the third largest in the world. This ancient civilization was well organized, and their cities were well laid out. In fact Mexico City still is almost a mirror image of their development. These people date back to 400 A.D. and were a power in the America's.

They were smart enough to build aqueducts, dig down 60 feet to mine obsidian that they made knives, spears and arrows out of. They designed and built these pyramids that were sophisticated and huge. When I compare their accomplishments to modern society I wonder how history will record modern day man. The technology is super but where is it leading us? It seems to me that it separates people rather than having them work together for a common cause.

Put 10 people in a waiting room; 9 of the 10, if not 10 of 10, will be looking at their cell phones and there is no person to person interaction. If the ancient civilizations didn't last with all the accomplishments they made and they still died out in 1,000-1,500 years, what will be our chance to last anytime at all? The ancient cavillations worked together and, seeing their accomplishments, they had to communicate together and co-exist together. What hope is there for modern man to survive and thrive?

With weapons of mass destruction, greed, power seekers - where will we be in 500 years, let alone 1,000 years? For those of us who are Christians we believe our God is in control in all circumstances and by looking in the past that reinforces our belief.  Are we better than ancient man - I don't think so. We too make human sacrifices for convenience. What is abortion other than destroying babies in the womb?

Will all our sophistication in the end destroy us and our way of life? Time and history will tell. Will our cities still be standing 1,000 years from now? Hopefully mankind will find a way to work together and put petty grievances aside. Food for thought.
