Then on the way home we observed another truck loaded with aspen coming off a lot on the main road. It may be okay but the truck was like the others that had stakes on the back so it could haul twice the load of a regular pickup truck. Also the other truck with it resembled the truck that the person I caught illegally cutting aspen off peoples lots, and hauling it out of the park, was like the one described as the person who was running the illegal operation.
Maybe they had permission to cut trees on that lot but they were only hauling aspen and not pine. Aspen is the best wood for heating in our area as it produces less soot and creosote. It surely appeared to me that the tree poachers and trespassers were back. The association has created a gate code for people who forgot their card and my best guess is that the tree poachers know how to get that code. Especially when they send it out by email to all members. They have created a void that allows thieves to access the community.
Then as I drove home I passed the community center where someone had vandalized it earlier. They opened all the windows and locked the doors so the cold would probably freeze the water pipes. Then a little further on I passed the pump house where there is a well that provides water in case of a wildfire or home fire. The vandals turned off the heat in it and the pipes froze and they relocked it when they left having changed the combination to the lock so no one else could get in.
It is probably a disgruntled resident who is too stupid to realize that it is our dues money that will have to pay for the repairs. Also if we have a house fire we won't have water to put it out. This is the worst deterioration of our community that I have witnessed in our 25 years here. It has had its problems before but nothing like the present problems. I reported both incidents to the association but so far I don't think anything has come of it - at least I have not heard anything. We have surveillance cameras all over so they should be able to identify the culprit. Coupled with the recent home burglaries it appears the community is suffering a crime wave. That is why we had a sophisticated security system installed. People are going to be real surprised when they visit their lots again and find all the good aspen removed and the tops of trees littering their property.

cheap trail camera to catch/document the idiot party. If association is too lazy to monitor the problem, it falls to the landowners. Unfortunatley.
Well said Bruce. Our annual dues can only cover so much which puts the onus on landowners, but most aren't there duirng the winter. We are thankful for full time residents like you who keep an eye out, but with 116 miles of roads it is an impossible task for either the association, full timers, or volunteers. Vandalism of the community center and pump house is truly idiotic. It is a shame so many camera's are required both for the association property and our own properties. Unfortunately personal responsibility seems to be losing favor with the masses which creates a bigger burden for everyone.
Holy smoke! Just became aware of this. Our society is suffering from the lack of a moral compass in so many.
