Vietnam:

When I turn on the news and see our ICE officers attack and abused it brings back the Flower Children and Anti war protestors of the 1960's.  I was in the military then and we were under orders if we lived or went off the base to wear civilian clothes. We were still found out because our windshield sticker for entrance to our military base, our haircut, the way we carried ourselves. our shoes etc.

We were under strict orders never to reply or fight back when we were spit at, pushed or in other ways assaulted. If we did retaliate in any way we would be court martialed. We were told to walk away but the peaceful "Flower Children" would yell at us, call us names, refer to us as baby killers etc. and we were told to say or do nothing, much like the ICE officers are now. So this is not a new situation and I feel deeply for the ICE officers.

When we were on our way home if we stopped for infant formula or a loaf of bread or even gas for our vehicles, we were subject to the same abuse that ICE endures today. Maybe not as physical as today where they want to kill the officers but nonetheless ugly abuse. What it does for me now is to bring back all those ugly memories.

Because I was in a special operations unit that was quick strike any where in he world, I did not go to Vietnam but I would have considered it a privilege to actually fight back in the jungles as to be abused by our own citizens here in my home country that my buddies were defending and fighting for. I did not know why we were in Vietnam but my job was to not ask questions just follow orders. That is what we were all doing yet we were abused by our own citizens.

People ;now want to forget the ugly of the 60's, but for us who had to deal with it we can forgive but not forget.
