Most Significant Day In History:

If you believe in the bible this blog may be important to you; if you do not believe in the bible it probably won't.  In the second chapter of Luke is the story of Jesus birth. This ties in with my last blog regarding the absolute silence and peace in our past mountain home.

Shepherds were tending their sheep in the fields and they according to history were on the outer fringe of society. When an angel appeared to them they were afraid. Out in the fields by themselves and an angel suddenly appears with a heavenly glow would scare me too. They were told not to be afraid that there was good news, a child was born that will bring great joy to all people.  Then the sky opens up further and there are more angels all praising God.

It would have been quiet except for the sounds of the sheep and suddenly there is this strange apparition out of no where which would scare the bejeebers out of anyone. Then a host of these apparitions appear all praising God.

When we lived in the mountains I would go outside to just be in total silence and be alone. It would allow my mind to think of matters like this. The quiet was absolute and there were zero distractions. Most people never in their lifetime are privileged to experience such silence and the chance to reflect on the more important issues of life. City or suburban life has its noise which most come to accept. Absolute silence is very rare if ever.

Such noises such as vehicles, talking that carries to you, animal noise or a host of other interruptions makes quiet hard to find;  hence that peace that comes from total silence is never fully experienced. Noise restricts people thinking about the more weighty matters by disrupting their thought process. In fact total silence makes many people uncomfortable. Looking up in silence at the snow flakes or stars, made me realize how great a God we have if we just take a moment to thank him for his amazing creation.

Taking some time in a quiet moment gives us time to ponder all He has done for us and is doing every moment of every day. Finding total silence is hard but we can still look around and find things to thank Him for. I am thankful for those many times I was given to see and appreciate His might wonders.  We really should take time to reflect on the weightier matters like the bible reflects in so many areas.
