Check out the latest blog on Mother Earth News about different types of snow and how they are not all equal in moisture. I have seen several postings on FB about people on the east coast getting snow that turns black when they put a match to it. Not sure what that is all about but it is very weird to say the least. At least here in the mountains our snow melts like it should.

I saw the black snow on facebook but I wasn't able to comment because of the way it was shared and it was driving me crazy that people were just assuming that is was bad and not looking it up for a real explanation. The snow goes from ice to vapor through sublimation and the black is from the soot from the lighter fuel.
